1. Smurfing
To assemble as many people dressed and painted as Smurfs as possible an event was organized but those in charge forgot to figure out what the old record was. Thinking that the previous largest number of Smurf-clad adults gathered in one place couldn’t have been higher than 395 Croats, and far less than the previous record assembled and waited to enter the annals of pointless world record history.
Unfortunately, 451 students from Warwick University had already beaten them to it the previous year. Imagine a group throwing their little hats into the air, joyously celebrating what they thought was a victory just to learn that it was their mistake of not knowing the previous record number. When trying to break a world record, it’s probably worth your time to check what the record is first.
2. Coconut Breaking
Breaking coconuts placed in a row might sound possible but instead of leading you to break all the coconuts there is a possibility, you break you own hand. Breaking coconuts lined up is bossible but the probability of failure is too high. If you are the one who wishes to be the participant in the future then here goes the word of caution. Don’t practice on rotten watermelons or eggplant as these are easy to break and you won’t be ready for the real challenge, spring for a couple of real coconuts!
3. Domino Toppling
To set up four million dominoes and then knock them all over in a Dutch convention centre, a sparrow flew into the building during setup and, while it didn’t knock over all four million of the dominoes, it did knock over 23,000 of them. The bird wan cornered and shot, presumably knocking over countless dominoes during their blind rage. It is suggested to always check for unpredictable animals before investing hundreds of man-hours into a project that can be destroyed by a gentle touch.
4. Fire Walking
Walking through a pit of hot coals is possible for daring hearts. In the real incident, three hundred and forty-one people gathered to take part in the attempt, some of which were totally unaware of what they are about to do. Despite strict supervision and training, twenty-eight people ended up getting serious burns and eleven of them had to be taken to the hospital. Thankfully, few doctors were on hand to watch the event, so it was possible to help the injured speedily. The attempt was made to raise fund for health services but doing something like this is dreadful.
5. Bar Hopping
The aim of Bar Hopping contest, one has to visit as many bars as possible in a single night while consuming at least a pint at each establishment. In one weird incident Guinness declined to oversee the attempt because the man named Larry Olmsted had been blacklisted by the organization. Olmsted had previously held the world record for the greatest distance travelled between two rounds of golf played on the same day. When Olmsted submitted his application for a new record attempt, he was shocked to learn that Guinness was looking to taking legal action against him.
6. Free-falling

7. Sandwich Making
In an attempt to make the longest sandwich ever prepared to beat the record of making 1,378 meters sandwich set by a group of Italians, an Iranian women’s organization assembled more than 1,000 cooks to create 1,500-meter long sandwich. Guess what? The observing crowd forced their way past the cooks and started eating the sandwich before its record length could be verified. Inviting a hungry crowd to a lengthy event that revolves around eating is bit risky. So, it is suggested to provide a snack or two to the crowd gathered to witness the scene and cheer you up.
8. Fasting
Agasi Vartanyan, the Russian in an attempt to break the fasting record forgot one key step that is to tell the Guinness what he was doing. In order to successfully make it into the book, you must first inform Guinness of the attempt to be in. Vartanyan decided it would be better if he sat in a giant plastic cube for fifty days first and then dealt with all that boring and tedious paperwork once he got out.
9. Yuri Kudinov and the English Channel
In an attempt to break the World Record for swimming the English Channel which was previously 7 hours, 8 minutes and 42 seconds, Yuri who was a long-distance swimmer for Russia claiming to get an impressive 3 Golds from World Championships started swimming the English Channel with rival Petar Stoychev. Unfortunately for Yuri, his rival Petar completed the Channel in 6 hours and 57 minutes, becoming the World Record holder and the only person to swim the Channel in under 7 hours. Be cautious and don’t invite your rival to break a world record the same day you plan on doing it.
10. Most Bra Chains Linked Together
The attempt was to make the world’s largest bra chain link making all men apprehensive about their ability to undo them with their eyes closed. In one episode, the ‘hookers’ from Worcester were attempting to beat the previous Australian record of 166,000 bra links, and mistakenly they made a ‘boob’ of it all. it happened because when the bras were being taken out of the boxes, they had all got tangled up and because of the shortage of time they could not do anything and had to call the whole event off. The word of caution runs as the fewer bras you play with, the less tangling you get.
