Meet Scott Weaver, who has devoted 35 years of his life crafting sculptures that left the spectators awe-struck. Letting his creative juices flow, Scott started playing creatively with toothpicks in the year 1968 when he was just 8 years old. Initially, this artistic ingenious created structures that were abstract and about 2-4 feet tall and then he never looked back. He just grew up as an individual and the creative artist.
His creative artworks include-sculpture with a ping-pong ball rolling through it, the Golden Gate Bridge, Lombard Street sculptors, Rolling Through the Bay. All these with the toothpicks that you all till date surely thought solved just one purpose. For Scott Weaver, toothpicks were never just mere pieces that lie on the dining table or restaurant tables instead these small sticks served the purpose of raw material for crafting the masterpieces.
Scott’s San Francisco sculpture known by the name ‘Rolling Through the Bay’ stands apart with numerous hidden balls running in the snake around the sculpture. On top of that, each run is a tour of a different part of the city which makes it all the more fabulous.
Would you believe me if I tell you all that Scott spent nearly 3,000 hours to build the toothpick model and installation of “Rolling Through the Bay” with 100,000 toothpicks of different brands. All that Scott used to craft these toothpick sculptures is glue, toothpicks and an incredible amount of ingenuity.
Indeed, there are lot many toothpick sculptures larger than the one created by Scott and you can question what makes Scott’s toothpick sculptures unique to leave the spectators mesmerized. Well, answer to this question is the unique kinetic components which no other sculpture has. You got to see it to believe it!
